Project Definition and Policy Document for Spell Ablaze Competition

Introduction: Spell Ablaze is a written spelling bee competition that cuts across upper primary, junior
secondary, and senior secondary. There are three categories and students are to participate according
to their level.

Project Analysis
Spelling Test: The spelling test is typed questions and answers for each category, students are to follow
instructions and put down their answers in the same question script. There are 50 questions for Upper
Primary and 100 questions for both Junior and Senior Secondary.
Test Integrity Evaluation: test questions shall be vetted by renowned English Language teachers across
all grade levels. This vetting includes pre-examination and post-examination. Marking the scripts will be
done by volunteer teachers whose schools did not participate in the competition. Answer scripts would
just have the name, class, and registration number of the participant. After marking and grading, results
will be sent as PDF files to each participating school, exam scripts are sent on request, and the school
pays the delivery fee.

In the Case of a Tie: students who top the list with an equal marks will have to retake some make-up
exams to determine their positions.

Reason for the Competition:

Participants' Starter Pack: A starter pack that includes sample questions, lists of
words, and guidelines on how to answer Spell Ablaze questions is released to all participating schools on
the same day to ensure a level playground for all participants.
Requirements for Participation: The competition is open to students from upper primary to senior
secondary. Each participating school is at liberty to include a sample questions, lists of. words, and

participate in their category. Each participating student is to pay the sum of N8000.
Venue of the Competition: The proposed venue for the competition is Abuja National stadium,
particularly at the Swimming Bow.
Prize: the first position will get 100,000, the second position will get 50,000 and the third position will
get 25,000. This prize is distributed the same way across all grade-level participation. this means there
are 3 first positions, 3-second positions, and 3 third positions.
Teachers of students who won prizes are to get 25% of the prizes as compensation for a job well done,
also, they will get a certificate of recognition as an achiever in Education. Schools are to get a certificate
of participation on request save for the schools that won. However, the prizes for the competition will
be determined based on the number of overall participants.
Grand Finale: The award of price takes place in the school compound of the participating school that got
the overall best, as will be decided by the judges. The first and second runner up would also be awarded
at the same grand finale venue. Special Certificate of excellence will be awarded to the winning schools
and certificate of participation.

Teachers (Educators) will be given Achievement Award for the winning schools for only first, second and
third positions.

In other to encourage and build capacity; Participants who comes between 1st to 30th position has
